Carboxypeptidases and carboxypeptidase inhibitor in tumor-bearing animals; a possible blood test for neoplasia.

چکیده
Carboxypeptidase is here defined as that en zyme, found in a wide variety of tissues, which hydrolyzes chloracetyl-L-tyrosine, with the pro duction of acid groups and free tyrosine. The dis tribution and properties of this enzyme were recently described by us (1), and it was pointed out not only that two forms of the enzyme can be detected but that there can also be detected a naturally occurring inhibitor for one of these forms. We wish to report here deviations from nor malcy that we have found in this carboxypeptidase-carboxypeptidase inhibitor system in certain animal tumors and in the blood of tumor-bearing animals. We further wish to suggest the possibility that the blood changes may serve as a qualitative test for the presence of malignancy.

متن کاملClinical evaluation of the blood cell carboxypeptidase inhibitor test for malignant neoplasia.
views of these tests have been presented by Hom burger (7) and Huggins (8). With the possible exception of the serum acid phosphatase test for carcinoma of the prostate demonstrated by Gutman and Gutman (6) and the improved methods of cytological examination of fluids developed by Papanicolaou and Trant (10), none of these tests can be considered to be as reliable as a biopsy. Most recently, th...
متن کاملThe intrinsic threshold of the fibrinolytic system is modulated by basic carboxypeptidases, but the magnitude of the antifibrinolytic effect of activated thrombin-activable fibrinolysis inhibitor is masked by its instability.
Activated thrombin-activable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFIa) is intrinsically unstable, a property that complicates the study of its role in regulating fibrinolysis. To investigate the effect of basic carboxypeptidases on fibrinolysis under conditions of constant carboxypeptidase activity, we employed pancreatic carboxypeptidase B (CPB), a homologous, stable basic carboxypeptidase, as a surrogat...
متن کاملCarboxypeptidase S- and carboxypeptidase Y-deficient mutants of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
A new carboxypeptidase (carboxypeptidase S) was found in a Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain lacking carboxypeptidase Y (D. H. Wolf and U. Weiser, Eur. J. Biochem. 73:553-556, 1977). Mutants devoid of carboxypeptidase S activity were isolated from a mutant strain that was also deficient in carboxypeptidase Y. Four mutants were analyzed in detail and fell into one complementation group. The defect...
متن کاملAcid Carboxypeptidases in Grains and Leaves of Wheat, Triticum aestivum L.
Extracts of resting and germinating (3 days at 20 degrees C) wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv Ruso) grains rapidly hydrolyzed various benzyloxycarbonyldipeptides (Z-dipeptides) at pH 4 to 6. Similar activities were present in extracts of mature flag leaves. Fractionation by chromatography on CM-cellulose and on Sephadex G-200 showed that the activities in germinating grains were due to five acid ...
